Sanctuary City
|
Accepted into the SAQA show, 3-D Expression, now touring Statement: The place I call home, Philadelphia, is one among hundreds of sanctuary cities in the U.S. My “city of brotherly love” (sisterly love, implied) accepts its moral obligation to protect immigrants and refugees. City leaders and activists alike fight against detentions, deportations, family separations, and discrimination. We rise to welcome the stranger, give shelter, secure safe haven, advance dreams. Techniques: Machine applique, couching, ruching, free-motion quilting, photo transfer Materials: Scraps of international, vintage, and commercial fabrics, vintage quilt fragment, thermal emergency blanket, lame, lace, netting, caution tape, parachute cord, keys, safety pins, ribbons, yarn
