Nine is the number of justices who sit on the Supreme Court. Motifs and embellishments within the nine patches include:
- A gingko leaf--because people take gingko to help them remember--quilted with the date 1973, the year Roe v. Wade was decided
- Justice's robe, judge's gavel, scales of justice, a pillar upon which justice is based, the Supreme Court edifice
