Take Your Best Shot

That one great photo of yours can be the start of a sweet art quilt. I will up-size your image of a landscape, still life, or pet portrait, so you can easily cut patterns and translate the elements into fabric. Recreate the photo faithfully using realistic colors and textures, OR take it into a wild color palette for a pop-art version, or exaggerate the elements for a caricature or abstract result. 3 1/2 hours. On Zoom, with me as the Zoom host. In-person if your guild is within a 2 hour drive of Philadelphia, PA. Maximum of 12 participants, so everyone gets plenty of guidance.

What you’ll need for this workshop:

  • Three jpegs of photos you've taken  --- or ones you have the photographer's permission to use -- so no copyright infringement. Send them to your guild's program chair to be shared with me one week before the class. I'll help each participant choose the optimal image for this treatment, and do the printing for you.
  • Piece of fabric, 12” x 14”, for background
  • Fabric scraps to match elements of your photo
  • Tracing paper
  • 1/2 yard of paper-backed fusible web, such as Pellon Wonder-Under 805
  • Pencil, fine black Sharpie marker
  • Scissors for paper and for fabric
  • Pins, iron and ironing surface
  • Teflon sheet or parchment paper

What I’ll provide for this workshop:

  • An 8" x 10" printout of your photo to translate to patterns
  • Scraps of specialty fabrics from my stash for each participant to consider using
  • Step-by-step how-to's for reference and all you'll need to quilt, finish, and display your art quilt
